ADVERTISEMENTS
Turnovers and cold shooting plagued the Lady Indians in a 28-26 Cowapa League basketball loss at Seaside last week.
Scappoose took control early in the contest and built a 14-6 lead by the end of the first period. By halftime, Seaside had come back to tie up the game.
Seaside held a 5-2 scoring advantage in the third period.
Scappoose twice had chances to tie or go ahead in the waning moments of the game, but twice turned the ball over before getting a shot off. They could manage just four points in the final period, but did hold Seaside to three.
Scappoose would lose to league-leading Yamhill-Carlton on Friday night, 47-36.
They were down by just two at the end of the first period, but slipped behind by 25-16 at halftime. The girls outscored YC 10-9 in the third, but could make no headway in the fourth.
The Lady Indians could still make the league playoffs if they can win at Astoria on Thursday and Seaside loses. If they and Seaside remain tied in fifth, they will be eliminated.
Scoring:
Scappoose 14 6 2 4–26
