EVERYTHING’S UNDER CONTROL—Scappoose’se Aaron Aguilera has Travis Wright of Tillamook down and would pin him in just 1:14. The Indians controlled the upper weights, but Tillamook had more lower level wrestlers. The two teams clash again at district this Friday and Saturday in Banks.

The Scappoose Indians didn’t have their best dual match of the season Wednesday night when Tillamook came to town.
There were no major upsets on either side, but Scappoose Coach Jim Jones didn’t think some of his less-experience wrestlers performed as well as they might have.
“There were some good matches,” Jones said, “but I was disappointed in the effort level in some of the matches. I thought Adam Raethke wrestled well and gained some confidence as the match wore on. He gets his stance down and he should do well. Aaron Aguilera wrestled well and so did Jesse (Oblack).”
The match started at the 125 pound weight class and the Indians would win only one of the next seven weights. Pins by Aguilera at 171 pounds and Oblack at 189 helped stop what was looking like a runaway. Tillamook opted out of the 215-pound match at the last second, and Brixton Apon followed with a decision at 285 pounds. Scappoose was within eight points, but it would not get closer. Scappoose gave up pins at 103 and 112, before Gave Goodrich posted a 12-4 major decision at 119. He was slated to go up against defending state champ Adam Smith, but Tillamook didn’t weigh Smith in.
Tillamook and Scappoose have finished close at district and state for the last several years.
Jones is hoping the Tribe can send another large contingent to state again this season.
