ADVERTISEMENTS
Scappoose senior Trever Gwin, 18, has been a standout athlete for the Indians in football and wrestling. He transferred to Scappoose this year from Vernonia. Sports Editor John Brewington talked to him during last weekend’s wrest-ling tournament.
How did you decide to come to Scappoose?
After the flood and stuff, I talked to Mr. Brad McKedy (a Vernonia teacher) and he thought it would be a good idea. Mr. (Gordon) Jarman (the Vernonia athletic director) also encouraged me.
Who is in your family?
My parents, Judy and Darrell. I have a brother and a sister, they are older, both 23. They are twins—Tara and Travis. And my brother, Jesse (Oblack—a transfer student from Clatskanie and a nearly lifelong friend).
You had a pretty good football season. Did you enjoy yourself?
Yep.
How did you do in wrestling last year?
I finished third in state (189 pounds, 3A). I was 30-0, but lost by one point in the semifinals in double overtime. I didn’t go out as hard as I should have. I was a little scared. I lost to the same guy (Travis Moore of Gold Beach) at state my freshman year. Jesse lost to him in the finals.
You’re wrestling at 215 pounds this year. How do you think you’ll do at state?
I think I’ll make it into the finals.
