ADVERTISEMENTS
I took a break Monday afternoon, trying to figure out what I was going to write for a column.
It was so warm and sunny outside, it seemed more like spring than two-third of the way through winter. I know the east was hit with a massive snow storm over the weekend and more is expected, but my lawns looks like it’s ready to mow. Half the plants have buds starting to pop out. Sunday night was barely the first freeze of 2010. I half expected to see softballs being thrown around at the field by the district office.
El Nino may be to blame (or credit) for this weather, or so I’m told, but it certainly seems better to me than the two-feet of snow they got back east–with more on the way.
Spring may seem to be upon us, but winter sports are still in full swing. Some are getting ready to wrap up.
Congratulations are in order for the Scappoose girls swim team. The girls made a mighty stride last Friday, winning their first Cowapa League Championship.
Coach David Richmond said he told the girls that there was no swim hardware in the trophy case at the school, nor any banners hanging from the rafters. The girls responded by winning the championship by 55 points. It was the first time ever. And they did it at the Eisenschmidt Pool in St. Helens–the home pool for the team.
