The ever-improving Scappoose High swim teams posted another first last week–beating Rainier and Tillamook.
“It’s been a season of firsts for us,” Scappoose Coach David Richmond said. “Both our girls and boys teams won a meet for the first time in five years against Tillamook and Rainier.
“Many of our kids had a great meet,” he added. “It was a nice-tune up for league and district.”
Scappoose had some good individual swims in the meet. Rachel Rafferty won the 100 breaststroke and was second in the 100 backstroke. Cassandra Miltich won the 200 freestyle and was second in the 100 butterfly. Anna Ford won the 100 fly and he 200 individual medley. Courtney Alvarez won the grueling 500 free and Rona Schmellenkamp won the 100 free and was second in the 50 free. The girls also had firsts in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
For the boys, Ryan Rafferty won the 100 fly and the 100 breast. Kyle Claridge was first in the 100 back and second in the fly. Morgan Snook won the 500 free and Will Taylor was second in the 100 free. They also won the 200 medley relay.
Scappoose hosts the Cowapa League Champion-ships this Friday at the Eisenschmidt Pool in St. Helens.

Team scores: (Combined) Scappoose 241, Rainier 94; Scappoose 206, Tillamook 133; Tillamook 190, Rainier 137.
