Ministry group seeks use of former middle school
The city of Rainier is holding a public hearing on a conditional use permit application from Kelso, Wash.-based Mountain Ministries Ranch to use the former Rainier Middle School as a life skills training center for women and children. The Christian substance abuse ministry plans an extensive remodel to the school to create space for year-long residential treatment programming for women with addiction issues that centers on life skills, parenting skills and relationship skills as well as on bible study and biblical counseling. The hearing takes place on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at Rainier City Hall, 106 W. B Street.

Vernonia
Vernonia man linked to Washington County meth bust
A Vernonia man, along with two others, was arrested Monday for allegedly breaking into a Cedar Hills home three days after police took down a meth lab at the same location.
Martin Espinoza, 66, from Vernonia; Brittany Burr, 26, from Forest Grove, and transient Taylor Flannigan were reportedly found removing a large air compressor, CDs and other small items from the home and placing them in the back of a pickup at 450 S.W. Frenwood Way. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies found the trio driving away from the scene.
The home had been condemned and the drug equipment and evidence were removed on Friday. The suspects are in the Washington County Jail on charges of burglary and theft.

Mayor Adams defends police chief after criticisms following Jan. 29 police shooting
Mayor Sam Adams defended Police Chief Rosie Sizer against Commissioner Randy Leonard at a Tuesday morning press conference.
Earlier in the day, Leonard posted a statement on his website that suggested Sizer should be replaced because of the controversial Jan. 29 shooting of Aaron Campbell.
