Future of county law enforcement discussed at Chamber-run event

ADVERTISEMENTS

An informational meeting about the future of countywide law enforcement will be held this Saturday, Feb. 20 at the St. Helens Learning Center.

The meeting is a joint venture between the Enhanced Law Enforcement Advisory Committee (ELEAC) and the South County Chamber of Commerce, designed to inform, and gather input from, locals about law enforcement needs in Columbia County.

The ELEAC – comprised of 20 citizens – was created in December by the County Board of Commissioners to analyze the present level of law enforcement in the county, determine what is needed and deliver a report with recommendations to Commissioners by May 1. So far the ELEAC has

narrowed down a list of 10 options to seven.

The informal meeting will run from 10 a.m. to noon at 375 S. 18th St.
